Flash Player 8 Required
In order to stream the video and animation, we use Adobe Flash. Almost all computers already have the Flash Player on their PC's internet browser. However, many of these are older versions --- and Red Oak requires an up to date version. We ask that if you don't have it, please click on the button below and install the player. If your current plug-in is less that 4 years old, it should take you under 1 minute to download and install the plug-in (note: please restart your browser for the plug-in to take effect). Enjoy!

Broadband Connection Required
Red Oak Music requires at least a 600kbps internet connection to properly view the videos. Most DSL, ISDN and Cable connections should work (unless you have xceptionally low bandwidth). Dial-up will only work for the very patient --- sorry.

Levels 1-5 --- what do they mean?
The lesson and video levels are meant as a guide for helping you choose which lessons and are right for you. In summary, they are:

  • Level 1 - absolute or nearly beginners --- just learning the basic open chords and how to strum. The 'Basics' section (coming soon) the perfect place for you to begin.
  • Level 2 - beginning intermediate players --- barred chords introduced, fingerstyle and flatpick variations, bass-runs and easy fills in both styles.
  • Level 3 - intermediate players --- alternating thumb style fingerpicking, fairly easy flatpick leads, harder chords, nice arrangements with intros and endings.
  • Level 4 - more advanced players --- harder arrangements, more difficult flatpick leads or fingerstyle instrumentals, more voicings and chord inversions.
  • Level 5 - advanced --- more accomplished players who are also well-grounded in chord voicing and scale fingerings.
