DescriptionThis is the seventh lesson of Duke Robillard's Swingin' the Blues series of guitar lessons. The goal for this series is to transition a player familiar with standard 12 bar blues to more melodic and complex jazzy blues / swing playing. The series first focuses on jazzy blues and swing rhythm guitar to lay a solid foundation and then teaches passing chords, comping, riffing, double stops and lead guitar. The series ends by putting all of the new knowledge to practice in three songs: Swingin' with Lucy Mae, Lester Leaps In and Moten Swing.

Lesson 10 is  focused on learning the lead part to Lester Leaps In.  In this lesson, Duke discusses the following topics:

• A quick run through of a 32 bar solo based on the 32 bar swing form covered in Lesson 9
  
• Using 6ths, 9ths, 3rds and chromatic phrases
  
• Transitioning to the bridge
  
• Listening to jazz and swing to immerse yourself in the style and riffs
  
• The tradition of quoting melodies from other tunes
